A female Connecticut high school student, who, merely two days prior to winning the State championship, filed a lawsuit to bar biological males from competing in girls sports, beat a transgender competitor on the track.

According to Christian Post, Chelsea Mitchell, representing Canton High School, won Friday’s Class S 55-meter dash, clocking in at 7.18 seconds, while Bloomfield High School’s trans athlete, Terry Miller, finished at 7.20 seconds–being edged out by 0.02 seconds.

The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference has permitted male athletes, identifying as trans, to compete alongside girls, since 2017, drawing much controversy.

The following season, in 2018, a trans athlete was transferred schools, which meant that he could compete in Mitchell’s class, prompting the female athlete to launch a legal campaign to segregate athletes on the basis of their biological sex, rather than their gender identification.

Mitchell’s family is one of three local families leading the charge against the inclusion of biological males in girls sports.

Two trans athletes–locally known to regularly outcompete their biologically female competitors–included Terry Miller, who was pipped at the post by Mitchell, and Andraya Yearwood, of Cromwell High School.

Speaking with NBC Connecticut, following her win, Mitchell said: “I try to just clear everything out of my mind, this is just track, you know, it’s just running, just focusing on myself, not trying to think about anything else that’s been happening.”

She also said that the race was exciting, according to The Washington Times.

“I clapped because, for me, I’m not a hater,” Mitchell told the Hartford Courant. “When you take a win, you take the win. And even if you don’t respect me, I’ll respect you.”

She went onto say: “It’s definitely big because I’ve never beaten her before.”

Mitchell also won the 300-yard dash and long jump.
